Explore Uganda - A land gifted by nature

Discover Uganda – The Pearl of Africa

Uganda may be a small country, but it offers a remarkable range of places and experiences. You can trek through the forests of Bwindi to see mountain gorillas, track chimpanzees in Kibale, watch elephants and other wildlife across the savannah, hike in the mountains, and meet communities along the way. What makes Uganda special is the variety you can experience within one journey.

Uganda’s Wildlife & Primate Destinations

Uganda is particularly known for its exceptional primate and wildlife experiences. Mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, golden monkeys and numerous other primate species can be encountered across its forests, while the country's national parks offer varied opportunities for game viewing.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Home to nearly half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas, Bwindi is Uganda's premier destination for gorilla trekking. Forest trails lead through dense vegetation to habituated gorilla families, creating a remarkable wildlife experience in one of Uganda's most important conservation areas.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Part of the Virunga landscape, Mgahinga offers mountain gorilla and golden monkey trekking against a dramatic backdrop of volcanic peaks. The park also provides opportunities for hiking and exploring Uganda's southwestern highlands.

Kibale National Park

Known for its exceptional primate diversity, Kibale is one of Uganda's leading destinations for chimpanzee tracking. The forest is also home to numerous other primates and a rich variety of birdlife.

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Uganda's most diverse savannah park combines open plains, woodland, wetlands and the Kazinga Channel. Visitors can enjoy game drives, boat cruises and opportunities to see elephants, lions, buffalo, hippos and many other species.

Murchison Falls National Park

Where the Nile squeezes through a narrow gorge before plunging over Murchison Falls, Uganda's largest national park offers a combination of wildlife and dramatic scenery. Game drives and Nile boat cruises provide different perspectives of the park.

Kidepo Valley National Park

In Uganda's remote northeast, Kidepo offers vast landscapes, rugged mountains and excellent wildlife viewing with a strong sense of wilderness. It is an ideal destination for travellers looking to explore beyond Uganda's more established safari routes.

Lake Mburo National Park

Located within easy reach of Kampala and Entebbe, Lake Mburo offers a different safari experience with zebra, giraffe, impala, buffalo and abundant birdlife. Walking and cycling safaris provide opportunities to experience the landscape beyond a traditional game drive.

Uganda’s Mountains, Lakes & Landscapes

Uganda's landscapes extend far beyond its national parks. From volcanic mountains and highland lakes to forests, wetlands and the Nile, the country offers plenty for travellers who enjoy nature and outdoor adventure.

Rwenzori Mountains

The Rwenzori Mountains are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for their dramatic peaks, forests, waterfalls, alpine landscapes and glaciers. Multi-day treks offer an opportunity to explore one of Africa's most distinctive mountain environments.

Murchison Falls & the Nile

The Nile forms the heart of Murchison Falls National Park, where powerful rapids and the dramatic waterfall contrast with tranquil stretches of river. Boat cruises offer excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography.

The Great Rift Valley & Crater Lakes

Western Uganda's Rift Valley landscapes are characterised by rolling hills, crater lakes, forests and fertile agricultural areas. The scenery provides a beautiful setting for road journeys, nature walks and cultural experiences.

Lake Bunyonyi

Surrounded by terraced hills and dotted with small islands, Lake Bunyonyi is one of Uganda's most scenic highland lakes. It is a peaceful place to slow down, explore the surrounding communities and enjoy the landscape.

Uganda’s Birdlife

With more than 1,090 recorded bird species, Uganda is one of Africa's outstanding birding destinations. Its combination of forests, wetlands, savannah, lakes and mountains creates habitats for a remarkable variety of birds, including species associated with the Albertine Rift.

From the Shoebill and colourful forest species to rare and endemic birds, Uganda offers opportunities for both dedicated birders and travellers who simply enjoy discovering nature.

Uganda’s People & Cultural Heritage

Uganda is home to more than 50 distinct communities, each contributing to the country's rich cultural heritage. Music, dance, food, crafts, storytelling, farming traditions and everyday community life all offer ways to understand Uganda beyond its wildlife.

Our community-led cultural experiences connect travellers with local people through activities such as:

  • Traditional music, dance and storytelling
  • Local food and cooking experiences
  • Craft and artisan experiences
  • Community visits and guided walks
