Itinerary 8 Day Archaeological and Historical Tour

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN ARUSHA

Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport where you will be picked up by the guide and transferred to the hotel for relaxation and overnight at Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge

DAY 2: ARUSHA – TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK- KONDOA

After breakfast start your journey to Tarangire. Enjoy a game drive in this park stopping at one of the picnic sites to enjoy a packed lunch. Mid-afternoon you will head out of the park and drive onto Kondoa.

DAY 3: FULL-DAY KONDOA ROCK PAINTINGS

Full day to explore Kondoa rock paintings with your driver guide and local guide of the area. On the eastern slopes of the Masai escarpment bordering the Great Rift Valley are natural rock shelters, overhanging slabs of sedimentary rocks fragmented by rift faults, whose vertical planes have been used for rock paintings over at least two millennia.

DAY 4:  KONDOA WATERFALL SITE – MGULU- KARATU TOWN

After breakfast start your journey from Kondoa to the town of Karatu. You will drive to Magara to enjoy your packed lunch at a beautiful waterfall site before heading up through the Mgulu highlands, an area of beauty before arriving in the town of Karatu.

Day 5: KARATU -NGORONGORO CRATER- OLDUVAI AREA

Early morning you will descend into the Ngorongoro crater for game drives. There are 25,000 large mammals residing in the park. The elephants are mainly bulls, females stay out of the park due to it boasting the largest predator population in Africa.

Black Rhinos also make their home on the grassy plains, their numbers make up for almost half of what can still be found in East Africa; about 20 in total. Mid-afternoon exit the crater and drive onto the Olduvai area. Accommodation and Meals at Olduvai Camp

DAY 6: LAEOTIL FOOTPRINTS- MAASAI COMMUNITY OF ESILALEI

Breakfast and then visit Olduvai Gorge and the shifting sands and the Leotil footprints, carrying a packed lunch. In the afternoon you will say goodbye to this area and head back to the town of Karatu and down the famous Rift Valley Escarpment to the Maasai community of Esilalei.

Day 7:  MAASAI BOMA – MTO WA MBU FOR A CULTURAL TOUR

Early morning meet with your Maasai guide and continue down to a traditional Maasai Boma (mud dwelling) for an introduction to the Maasai way of life, beliefs, and rituals. Then enjoy breakfast before heading off to the village of Mto wa Mbu for a cultural tour and traditional Swahili Lunch.

You return to Isoitok Camp in the afternoon taking a short walk in the local area to learn about the Maasai traditional medicine use, which plants are used for which propose before ending up at the local viewpoint.

Enjoy a cool drink and snacks while soaking up the views over Maasai land, Lake Manyara, and the Great Rift Valley Escarpment. Accommodation and Meals at Isoitok Camp Manyara

Day 8: ARUSHA – DEPARTURE

After breakfast drive, back to Arusha town and then onto JRO airport in time for your departing flight. If time allows you may visit the Visit Cultural Heritage and Art Gallery or Arusha town and Maasai curio market.
