Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Kigali – Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival in Kigali, Rwanda, the company representative will welcome you to embark on your 4 days Rwanda Primates Tour. You will visit Kimironko market and experience the colorful handmade arts and crafts market at Caplaki Craft Village if time allows.

After lunch, head to Volcanoes National Park amidst the forested slopes of the Virungas forming a dramatic setting for the most poignant and memorable wildlife experience of a lifetime: gorilla trekking. Accommodation and Meals at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.

Day 2: Gorillas in the Mist – Gorilla Trekking

After breakfast at the lodge, head to the Volcanoes National Park (Parc National des Volcans) Headquarters, to meet your gorilla trekking guides and fellow trekkers. During your briefing sessions, you will be assigned to a group with a maximum of 8 people to trek.

Depending on how far in the mist the gorillas have moved, the length of the trek will vary from 4-8 hours passing through the open fields to the terraced slopes to the forest of bamboo and thick undergrowth that defines the park boundary.

Spend 1 hour with them due to conservation purposes, and take time to capture this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thereafter return to the lodge for relaxation at the lodge.

Accommodation and Meals at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking and Dian Fossey Project

After breakfast, head out to the briefing point once again for golden monkey trekking. Golden monkeys are primates that reside in the Virunga regions of Uganda, Rwanda, and DR Congo. There are two habituated troops of golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park and the larger troop in Sabyinyo volcano with 80 – 100 members is the most visited.

The monkeys are easily found as they live at the bottom of the volcano mountains in the bamboo forest, and by following clues of fresh leftovers from eaten bamboo shoots and leaves the trackers are able to locate them.

Visitors get to spend a maximum of one hour watching closely these incredibly beautiful monkeys as they go about their daily activities.

After lunch, visit the Dian Fossey Project, which takes about  3 -4 hours, where you head out to the graveyard where several of Dian Fossey’s favorite gorillas were buried and Dian Fossey as well close to her beloved gorillas.

You may take a look at the facility labs, and research center and meet the researchers plus staff who work on the Dian Fossey Project.  Accommodation and Meals at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.

Day 4: Transfer Back to Kigali – Departure Back Home
