3 Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari

Day 1: Arrive in Kigali – Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival in Kigali, Rwanda, the company representative will welcome you to embark on your 3 Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari. If time allows, you will visit Kimironko market and experience the colorful handmade arts and crafts market at Caplaki Craft Village.

After lunch, transfer to Volcanoes National Park amidst the forested slopes of the Virungas forming a dramatic setting for the most poignant and memorable wildlife experience of a lifetime: gorilla trekking.

Situated in the far northwest of Rwanda, Volcanoes National Park protects the steep slopes of this magnificent mountain range – home of the endangered mountain gorilla and a rich mosaic of montane ecosystems, which embrace evergreen and bamboo forest, open grassland, swamp and heath.

Volcanoes National Park is named after the chain of dormant volcanoes making up the Virunga Massif: Karisimbi – the highest at 4,507m, Bisoke with its verdant crater lake, Sabinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura.

Day 2: Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari

After enjoying a hearty breakfast at your lodge, your day begins with a journey to Volcanoes National Park (Parc National des Volcans) Headquarters. Here, you’ll meet your experienced gorilla trekking ranger guides and fellow adventurers.

During the informative briefing session, you’ll be grouped with a maximum of 8 trekkers and assigned to a specific gorilla family for your trekking experience.

The trek itself can vary in duration from 4 to 8 hours, depending on the location of the gorillas in the mist-shrouded forest. You’ll traverse diverse landscapes, from open fields and terraced slopes to dense bamboo forests and thick undergrowth that mark the park’s boundaries.

Once you locate the gorilla family, you’ll have an unforgettable hour to observe them in their natural habitat. This limited time ensures minimal disturbance and supports ongoing conservation efforts.

After this remarkable encounter, you’ll return to your lodge to unwind and reflect on your extraordinary day of gorilla trekking in Rwanda.

Day 3: Gorilla Guardians Village – to Kigali – Departure Back Home

After breakfast, take a moment to savor the breathtaking scenery once more before continuing your journey to the Gorilla Guardians Village. Here, you’ll delve into Rwanda’s rich history and culture through a unique cultural exchange. The Gorilla Guardians Village not only offers a fascinating glimpse into local traditions but also plays a vital role in the conservation of mountain gorillas.

By promoting cultural exchanges over poaching, the village community actively supports the protection and preservation of these endangered species. This immersive experience not only enriches your journey but also contributes directly to sustainable conservation efforts in Rwanda.

After that, we calmly transfer back to Kigali arriving in time for lunch at the end of your 3 Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari.  Depending on the time of your international flight you will be dropped at Kigali International Airport or make use of the day room for refreshment.
