Itinerary 10 Day Primate and Wildlife Safari

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport

Prepare for a warm welcome from a dedicated Company Representative who will ensure your seamless transfer to Papyrus Guest House for a cozy overnight stay at the start of the 10 Day Primate and Wildlife Safari. Depending on the time of arrival, you may have a visit to the Uganda Wildlife Education Center for an introduction into the flora and fauna of Uganda.

Day 2: Transfer – Kibale National Park

Fuel up with a hearty breakfast and set off on a westward adventure towards Fort Portal. Don’t forget to treat yourself to a mouthwatering lunch en route. Nestled among the legendary “Mountains of the Moon,” Fort Portal awaits, surrounded by enchanting tea plantations.

Our journey continues southwest to Kibale National Park, where the awe-inspiring vistas of the Great Rift Valley’s western arm are sure to mesmerize you.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and nature walk at Bigodi

Embark on an epic adventure starting with a pre-tracking briefing at 7:30 a.m. Then, journey to the trailhead for an unforgettable guided primate walk through the lush tropical rainforest. Encounter the wild chimpanzee, red-tailed monkey, black-and-white colobus monkey, and more as you delve into the heart of nature.

With treks typically lasting 3-4 hours, prepare for remarkable chimp sightings in their natural habitat. Join a small group of up to 6, led by a seasoned forest ranger, on an exhilarating chimpanzee tracking experience. Spend an awe-inspiring hour observing these fascinating creatures in their daily routines.

Afterward, return to the lodge for a delicious lunch before venturing to the Bigodi Swamp Walk. Managed by the local community, this initiative boasts a remarkable array of birdlife and primates. Bird enthusiasts will be thrilled by the presence of over 200 species, including the magnificent Great Blue Turaco.

Day 4:  To Queen Elizabeth National Park – Boat cruise Kazinga Channel – Coffee Tour

Start your day with a symphony of birdsong in the park, followed by a delightful breakfast as the sun rises. Then, embark on an adventure to Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you’ll encounter iconic wildlife such as hippos, buffaloes, elephants, kobs, and a myriad of bird species.

After indulging in a satisfying lunch, set sail on a scenic boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway teeming with diverse birdlife, majestic elephants, and herds of buffaloes. Look out for the playful antics of the hundreds of hippos lounging along the shores.

Cap off your day with a captivating coffee tour, immersing yourself in the art of coffee processing. During the tour, you will get to learn how the whole process of growing coffee seeds, production stages until the final stage of consumption or market stage. Have a tangible experience by yourself and feel the taste of African coffee while supporting the lives of orphans and other vulnerable children and elderly in the community.

Day 5: Game Safari  – Ishasha sector – Tree climbing lions

After breakfast, head for the lion research project that allows visitors to participate in monitoring the pride in the park, using locator devices and learning habituation calls, as well as monitoring weather, surroundings, and behavior. 

The Lion Project involves the clients and the researchers heading as early as 6:30 a.m. with a safari vehicle equipped with radio-collar-receiving equipment to keep track of the lions. Later head for Ishasha sector, home of the popular tree-climbing lions, another major highlight of the primate & wildlife safari.

You shall first check in at the lodge for lunch and thereafter head for the game drive in search of the tree-climbing lions as they cling to the fig trees.  Accommodation and Meals at Ishasha Jungle Lodge 

Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Start your day with a delightful bush breakfast, then embark on another game drive through the Ishasha sector, in search of the iconic tree-climbing lions. During your game drive, you may also encounter herds of elephants, buffalo, Uganda kob, and other antelope species grazing on the lush grasslands.

Afterward, journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, with lunch en-route arriving in the evening for relaxation at Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge

Day 7: Gorilla trekking at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Embark on an unforgettable adventure after breakfast at Bwindi Park offices! You’ll be matched with a gorilla family in group 8 and a knowledgeable tracking guide. Get briefed on gorilla behavior and safety, then hit the trail for an exhilarating journey.

Prepare for a 2-8 hour trek through steep, muddy terrain, perhaps under a drizzle. But the payoff? Witnessing gorillas up close—eating, playing, and resting. It’s an unparalleled experience you’ll treasure forever! This is one of the highlights of the 10 Day Primate and Wildlife Safari.

Day 8: Transfer to Lake Mburo Park – Cycling session or Evening game drive.

After breakfast head to Lake Mburo National Park arriving in time for lunch. After lunch, you will embark on a 2-hour cycling session to explore the valleys outside the park and visit with the local communities accompanied by a guide, look out for wildlife as well.  Alternatively, you may have an evening game drive in the park.

Day 9: Nature walk and Night Game Drive / Horseback riding

Start your day with a leisurely breakfast before embarking on a guided nature walk along the hyena track in the park. Spend two hours exploring the woodland, and look out for fascinating forest birds and mammals. Then, return to the lodge for a relaxing lunch.

As the evening approaches, enjoy an early dinner before setting off on a thrilling two-hour night game drive. This night offers chances of spotting the elusive white-tailed mongoose, majestic leopards, and cunning spotted hyenas, among other nocturnal creatures. Afterwards, unwind back at the lodge.

Alternatively, opt for a scenic two-hour horseback riding adventure through the park, taking in the stunning scenery and wildlife along the way. Accommodation and meals are provided at Rwakobo Rock

Day 10: Lake Mburo – Entebbe

Depart the park on this day after a relaxed breakfast. You will have lunch en route and arrive in the early evening in Entebbe. A day room option is available if your flight is late in the evening at the end of the 10 Day Primate and Wildlife Safari.
