Mount Elgon and Sipi Falls

Mount Elgon National Park and Sipi Falls – Hiking and Adventure in Eastern Uganda

Rising majestically on the Uganda–Kenya border, Mount Elgon National Park is one of East Africa’s most rewarding destinations for hiking, nature, and cultural discovery. Covering over 1,121 square kilometers, the park protects the ancient slopes of Mount Elgon, an extinct volcano with one of the largest volcanic calderas in the world.

Mount Elgon National Park and the spectacular Sipi Falls offer one of the most rewarding hiking and nature experiences in East Africa. From towering waterfalls and volcanic landscapes to scenic mountain trails and vibrant local culture, this region is a paradise for adventure travelers, hikers, and nature lovers seeking an off-the-beaten-path safari in Uganda.

Although erosion has softened its ancient peaks, Mount Elgon remains one of Africa’s most scenic mountains, crowned by impressive summits such as Wagagai Peak, Jackson’s Summit, Kiongo, and Mubiyi. The mountain’s lush slopes hide spectacular waterfalls, caves, bamboo forests, and wildlife-rich valleys.

At its foothills lies the breathtaking Sipi Falls, a series of three stunning waterfalls cascading down dramatic cliffs overlooking the vast Karamoja plains. Together, Mount Elgon and Sipi Falls create one of Uganda’s most captivating nature and adventure destinations.
