Day 4: Sweetwaters / Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Arrive at your camp for lunch and enjoy stunning views of a busy watering hole, perfect for wildlife observation from your lodge. Ol Pejeta, known as East Africa’s largest black rhino sanctuary, offers exceptional opportunities to see these magnificent creatures.

Day 5: Transfer to Lake Nakuru National Park
Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, famed for its birds and rhino sanctuary, where thousands of flamingos congregate to feed on Spirulina platensis, a blue-green alga that grows naturally in the lake. Start your day with an early morning game drive, a prime time for wildlife viewing. As you explore the park, look out for a variety of animals, including the endangered white rhino, elusive leopards, majestic lions, and graceful waterbucks. The park is also home to buffalo, impalas, and warthogs, providing ample opportunities for remarkable wildlife encounters.
Have a boat cruise on Lake Nakuru, famed as a bird watcher’s paradise. Besides the iconic flamingos, you’ll have the chance to spot pelicans, herons, and over 450 other bird species that inhabit the park. The sight of thousands of flamingos creating a pink-hued shoreline is truly a spectacle to behold. Lake Nakuru National Park is a haven for birdwatchers, famous for its flocks of flamingos that seasonally line the shores of Lake Nakuru. The park, covering 188 square kilometers, is also a sanctuary for endangered species.

Home to around 25,000 large mammals, this natural wonder offers some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities in Africa. Look out for majestic bull elephants, as females typically stay outside the crater due to its dense predator population, one of the highest in Africa.
The crater’s grassy plains are also a refuge for the critically endangered black rhino, with approximately 20 individuals making up nearly half of East Africa’s remaining population.

Day 6: Game Safari and Walking Safari in Mikumi National Park
After breakfast, head to the Mkata Floodplain, one of Tanzania’s most rewarding wildlife-viewing areas, offering some of the most reliable sightings of the mighty eland—the world’s largest antelope. The floodplain is also home to giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, wildebeest, and a remarkable array of antelope species, including the elegant greater kudu, sable, roan, and Liechtenstein’s hartebeest.
As the landscape transitions into the miombo-covered foothills, the terrain becomes the domain of elusive species like the sable antelope and greater kudu, while rare bat-eared foxes can be spotted in the early evening, using their acute hearing to detect insects more than a foot underground.
Mikumi is also known for its thriving elephant population and an impressive range of predators, including tree-climbing lions, leopards, wild hunting dogs, spotted hyenas, and black-backed jackals.

Day 11: Hiking in Udzungwa
After breakfast, head to the starting point of your trek and begin exploring the breathtaking Udzungwa Mountains. Day 3: The Ultimate Gorilla Trekking Experience
After breakfast at the lodge, your adventure begins with a drive to the headquarters of Volcanoes National Park. Here, you’ll meet your expert ranger guides and fellow explorers, all buzzing with anticipation.
Following a briefing on trekking etiquette and conservation efforts, you’ll be grouped with up to 8 trekkers and assigned to a specific gorilla family, ensuring an intimate and respectful wildlife encounter.
Your trek begins as you venture through diverse landscapes, from open fields and terraced hillsides to dense bamboo forests and lush undergrowth. The duration of the trek varies from 4 to 8 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location within the park.
Then, the moment of awe arrives—face-to-face with a mountain gorilla family in their natural habitat. You’ll have one magical hour to observe their interactions, from playful juveniles to nurturing mothers and dominant silverbacks.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Hike and Twin Lakes, Burera and Ruhondo
Begin your day with breakfast before heading to the briefing point for an unforgettable golden monkey trekking experience. These charming primates are native to the Virunga regions of Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, two habituated troops reside, with the larger troop in the Sabyinyo volcano area boasting 80 to 100 members, making it a popular attraction for visitors.
Golden monkeys are relatively easy to locate as they dwell at the base of the volcanoes within lush bamboo forests. Trackers follow the trail of fresh bamboo shoots and leaves to pinpoint their exact location. Once found, you’ll have a precious hour to observe these vibrant primates up close, witnessing their playful antics and intriguing behaviors in their natural habitat.
After lunch, head out on a captivating journey to explore the serene beauty of Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo. Nestled at the foothills of Mount Muhabura and nestled near the border with Uganda, these lakes boast breathtaking vistas of steep hills and cascading waterfalls, set against the majestic backdrop of the Virunga volcanic mountains.

After lunch, visit the renowned Dian Fossey Project. This 3-4 hour activity includes a trek to the graveyard where several of Dian Fossey’s favorite gorillas are buried, including Fossey herself. Explore the facility, including the labs and research center, and meet the dedicated researchers and staff working on the Dian Fossey Project. This visit offers a profound insight into the legacy of Dian Fossey and ongoing conservation efforts.

Day 5: Volcanoes Park – Gishwati-Mukura Park
Today you head to Gishwati-Mukura National Park which demonstrates how dedicated human efforts have reversed the damage caused by deforestation, flooding, subsistence hunting, overgrazing, soil erosion, illegal mining activities, and irresponsible farming.
President Paul Kagame established the Gishwati-Mukura National Park in February 2016, with the assistance of the American research institution Great Ape Trust, based in Des Moines, Iowa. The resilience of Rwandan nature has been proven once more in Gishwati-Mukura National Park.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking and Birding
On this exciting day head out on an unforgettable chimpanzee and primate trekking adventure. As you explore this lush part of Rwanda, keep your eyes peeled for the rare and endangered eastern chimps, along with playful L’Hoest monkeys, striking black-and-white colobus monkeys, vibrant blue (diademed) monkeys, and the elusive golden monkeys. The forest is also home to other fascinating creatures, including the black-fronted duiker, agile serval, red river hog, and the charming southern tree hyrax.
After a delightful picnic lunch, venture into the breathtaking Gishwati-Mukura Reserve, a paradise for bird enthusiasts. With over 130 bird species, including 14 endemic to the Albertine Rift region, the reserve offers incredible birdwatching opportunities. Marvel at the graceful grey-crowned crane, the majestic martial eagle, and spot the unique white-headed wood hoopoe, mountain yellow warbler, and old-world warbler as they flit through the canopy. Day 7: Gishwati -Mukura Park – Nyungwe National Park
Today, proceed from Gishwati-Mukura around 8:00 AM and journey towards Nyungwe National Park. The 4-hour drive spans approximately 150 kilometers of picturesque roads, offering stunning views of the Rwandan countryside. Traverse through rolling hills, adorned with lush greenery, and pass by charming tea plantations and quaint villages.
As you approach Nyungwe Forest National Park, the landscape transforms into a dense, emerald paradise, characterized by towering trees and abundant biodiversity.
Upon reaching your destination, allow yourself to check in and savor a leisurely lunch at the lodge. Spend the evening immersed in the peaceful ambiance, letting the tranquility of the surroundings and the symphony of the forest rejuvenate your spirit.

Day 8: Canopy Walk and Umubumbyi Community Experience
After breakfast, head out for the captivating 3-hour canopy walk adventure. Traverse is a 160-meter-long and 70-meter-high canopy walkway that offers breathtaking views of the lush forest canopy. This immersive experience allows you to observe a variety of primate species, including blue monkeys, as they navigate their natural habitat. Delight in sightings of colorful butterflies and diverse bird species that thrive in the upper reaches of the forest. The canopy walk promises not only stunning scenery but also a deeper connection with Rwanda’s rich biodiversity.
Later return for lunch at the hotel, after this, proceed for the Umubumbyi Community Experience offers travelers a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant culture and traditions of the local communities near Nyungwe Forest National Park. Day 9: Ndambarare Waterfall Hike – Lake Kivu
After breakfast, head out for a hike starting from a designated trailhead near Gisakura Reception Center. The 3-4 hour hike to Ndambarare Waterfall starts at 9 am and the trail passes through the tea estates and factory, lush and vibrant dense forest vegetation. As you hike, look out for the various primate species including the black and white colobus monkeys and L’hoest monkeys.
There are also bird species along the trail. After approximately 1-2 hours of hiking (depending on your pace and trail conditions), you’ll arrive at Ndambarare Waterfall. This majestic cascade, surrounded by pristine forest, plunges into a tranquil pool below, creating a mesmerizing scene. Later head back to the hotel for relaxation and check out, heading to Lake Kivu on a 1 -2 hour drive arriving in time for lunch and relaxation.

Day 10: Lake Kivu – Boat Cruise and Relaxation.
Start your day with a relaxed breakfast, and thereafter you’ll partake in a scenic boat ride to Nyamunini Island, also known as Napoleon Island for its resemblance to Napoleon’s hat. The island is home to a large colony of fruit bats, which you can encounter after a short, easy climb. You’ll also spot giant African millipedes, fish eagles, and a variety of water birds. After this experience, drive back to your hotel for some relaxation at the lodge and lunch.

Guided Kayaking: Enjoy kayaking on the calm waters of Lake Kivu under the guidance of a highly trained and experienced kayak leader. Spend a few hours, a full day, or even several days paddling through the clear blue waters, exploring countless inlets and bays.

Day 4: To Queen Elizabeth National Park – Boat cruise Kazinga Channel – Coffee Tour
Start your day with a symphony of birdsong in the park, followed by a delightful breakfast as the sun rises. Then, embark on an adventure to Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you’ll encounter iconic wildlife such as hippos, buffalo, elephants, kobs, and a myriad of bird species.
After indulging in a satisfying lunch, set sail on a scenic boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway teeming with diverse birdlife, majestic elephants, and herds of buffalo. Look out for the playful antics of the hundreds of hippos lounging along the shores.
Cap off your day with a captivating coffee tour, immersing yourself in the art of coffee processing. During the tour, you will get to learn how the whole process of growing coffee seeds, production stages, and the final stage of consumption, or market stage. Have a tangible experience by yourself and feel the taste of African coffee while supporting the lives of orphans and other vulnerable children and the elderly in the community.

Day 5: Game Safari – Ishasha sector – Tree climbing lions
After breakfast, head for the lion research project that allows visitors to participate in monitoring the pride in the park, using locator devices and learning habituation calls, as well as monitoring weather, surroundings, and behavior.
The Lion Project involves the clients and the researchers heading out as early as 6:30 a.m. with a safari vehicle equipped with radio-collar-receiving equipment to keep track of the lions. Later, head for Ishasha sector, home of the popular tree-climbing lions, another major highlight of the primate & wildlife safari.
You shall first check in at the lodge for lunch and thereafter head for the game drive in search of the tree-climbing lions as they cling to the fig trees.

Day 6: To Bwindi National Park
Start your day with a delightful bush breakfast, then embark on another game drive through the Ishasha sector, in search of the iconic tree-climbing lions. During your game drive, you may also encounter herds of elephants, buffalo, Uganda kob, and other antelope species grazing on the lush grasslands.
Afterward, journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, with lunch en route, arriving in the evening at the Home of the Mountain Gorillas.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park
In the early morning, you will be briefed on gorilla tracking at the park headquarters and assigned to groups of 8 people per group. Accompanied by a guide and your packed lunch, you will go in search of the gorillas in a small group. You walk through the forest, sometimes you descend again, and then climb up a slope again. The duration of gorilla tracking is unpredictable.
The walk can be quite strenuous due to the muddy trails and mountainous areas, and can take up to 8 hours depending on how far the gorillas have moved in search of food. It is worth it, and what awaits you, in the end, is indescribable.
For an hour, you can admire these peaceful ‘Gentle Giants’ as they go about their daily activities of grooming, feeding, and playing. It is a once-in-a-lifetime, memorable experience.

Day 8: Transfer to Lake Mburo Park – Cycling session or Evening game drive.
We drive to Lake Mburo National Park, and as we enter the park, you will likely spot some wildlife, like impalas, zebras, and buffaloes, arriving in time for lunch. In the afternoon, you can go on a boat ride on the lake and enjoy the rich birdlife and the hippos that are cooling off. In the evening, you will have an evening game drive in search of zebras, buffalo, giraffes, and impalas, among others, before returning to the Lodge for relaxation.

Day 9: Nature walk and Boat Cruise
Early start of the day, as we will go for a bushwalk guided by a ranger. Lake Mburo National Park is renowned for its rich birdlife and beautiful lakes. Enjoy a nature walk searching for zebras, warthogs, buffalo, and impala, and, if you’re lucky, see the largest of Africa’s antelopes, the beautiful Eland.
Return for lunch and thereafter enjoy a serene boat cruise on the tranquil waters of Lake Mburo, where nature unfolds in all its beauty. Glide past lush shorelines and witness a variety of wildlife, including hippos, crocodiles, and an array of water birds such as the African fish eagle and pied kingfisher. This leisurely experience offers breathtaking views of the park’s rolling landscapes and provides a unique perspective on Lake Mburo’s rich biodiversity.

Established in 1998, the sanctuary is dedicated to reintroducing rhinos to Uganda’s protected areas and educating local communities on conservation, poaching, and protecting these endangered species.

Day 3: Game Drive and Boat Cruise to the Bottom of the Falls
After breakfast, you will continue to Murchison Falls National Park with a game drive on the northern bank of the Nile, giving you a greater chance of seeing animals such as giraffes, elephants, lions, hartebeest, and different species of birds.
In the afternoon, you have a boat trip to the base of the falls. Look out for the Nile crocodile, hippos, waterbucks, and a variety of bird species at the bottom of the falls, an amazing scenic view of the Nile awaits you as well before returning to the lodge

Day 4: Top of the Falls and Evening Game Drive

Day 5: Murchison Falls Park – Kampala
Departing from Murchison Falls National Park, your journey to Jinja offers a captivating blend of scenic landscapes and cultural encounters. The route takes you through rolling savannahs, lush farmlands, and small trading centers bustling with local life.
As you travel, you’ll pass through the vibrant town of Nakasongola and cross the mighty River Nile at Karuma Falls, where the river surges dramatically through narrow gorges. Continuing on the smooth Kampala-Gulu highway, you’ll reach Uganda’s capital, Kampala, in early afternoon for relaxation.

Day 7: Kampala – Jinja, the Adrenaline Capital of Uganda
After breakfast, head to Jinja, arriving in time for relaxation and thereafter have a relaxed lunch. After lunch, head out for a slow-paced Boat Cruise along the Source of the Nil, taking in the cool breeze and looking out for some birds such as the African Eagle, kingfisher, monitor lizards, and otters. Spend the evening relaxing at the lodge.

Day 8: Rafting on the White Nile and Quad Biking
After breakfast, this day is all about adrenaline-pumping activities! Brace yourselves for a morning of family float whitewater rafting on the Nile – an exhilarating experience suitable for all ages. Thereafter, head out for a Quad Biking Session. Kids have the option of riding with their Parents or on their own using carefully designed and supervised circuits with skilled guides.
Adults can have the option of embarking on Explorer Safaris, River Nile Safaris, visiting the local communities, farmers, and areas of forest on this trip, besides the River Nile.
Alternative Activities.
Horseback Riding ( Pony Rides) for Kids and Advanced Rides for Adults. The ride takes in mostly the rural areas and the section along the Nile. There are options for short circuits on this ride; no one is expected to go faster than they feel comfortable.
Mountain Biking Adventure: Hop on a mountain bike and ride through the nearby village and forest. Marvel at the diverse tree species along the way. You can set off independently or join a knowledgeable local guide who will introduce you to the region’s crops and provide a glimpse into village life.
Guided Village Walk: Take a stroll through local villages and experience a traditional way of life that has remained largely unchanged for generations. Observe fish traps in action, watch the fishermen at work in the rapids, and see how the villagers tend their fields.
Bird Watching at the Eco Lodge: For a more tranquil activity, stay close to the lodge and enjoy some birdwatching. The surrounding area is home to a rich variety of bird species.

Day 9: Jinja – Entebbe – Uganda Wildlife Educational Center
After breakfast, head back to Entebbe, arriving in time for lunch at Hotel No. 5 and relaxation in the evening. You may visit the Uganda Wildlife Education Center, a center dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife. (Optional activity for the evening)

Day 10: Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Feeding Session – Departure
After breakfast, head to the jetty for a 9:00 am 45-minute boat cruise to Ngamba Island. Upon arrival, visit the sanctuary’s visitor center for an introduction to the project, its history, and the resident chimpanzees.
At 11:00 am, enjoy an educational session led by a chimpanzee caregiver and witness the feeding of the chimps from a raised platform along the sanctuary fence. Savor lunch on the island before cruising back to the mainland and returning to the lodge for refreshment before heading to the airport for your onward flight back home at the end of the Family Adventure in Uganda.

Day 2: Entebbe – Ssezibwa Falls and Ziplining
On this day, you will head to Ssezibwa Falls, a cultural site, and learn about preserved African traditional cultures. Proceed to Mabira Forest, arriving in time for lunch. Thereafter after you will enjoy a thrilling zip-line experience that will send you soaring between the tallest trees in the rainforest.
This adventure includes a network of five zip lines spanning 250 meters. High up in the canopy, you can admire the forest layers and spot wildlife such as grey-cheeked mangabey and red-tailed monkeys, as well as birds like palm nut vultures, African fish eagles, and great blue turacos. You’ll also hear the roaring Griffin Falls below.

Day 3: Mabira Nature Walk and Bird Watching.
On this day, you will head to Mabira Forest for a nature walk. The forest is renowned for its rich biodiversity, including mammals like red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabey, and birds such as the great blue turaco, black-and-white-crowned hornbill, and the rare Nahan’s francolin, Cassin’s hawk, and purple-necked goshawk.
Head back to the Lodge for lunch and relaxation in the evening at the Lodge. Alternatively, you may head back to the Forest for a Birdwatching session. The Mabira forest bird list stands at about 316 species. There are 74 species of the Guinea–Congo Forests biome out of the total 144 recorded in Uganda.

Day 4: To Sipi Falls – Hiking to the waterfalls
After breakfast, we journey towards Tororo, pausing to marvel at Tororo Rock, a towering formation that commands a 300-meter elevation above the plains. Our route continues to Mbale, a town at the base of Mount Elgon, renowned for its rich heritage and captivating culture.
Enjoy a delightful lunch in Mbale, surrounded by picturesque viewpoints along the way, before we proceed to Sipi Village. This charming settlement is positioned amidst cascading waterfalls and majestic mountains, offering a serene retreat.
Start the nature walk to the base of this renowned waterfall, then continue with a challenging ascent to explore a series of caves. The journey begins with a leisurely nature walk that leads you to the base of the majestic waterfall, where the rushing waters cascade down rocky cliffs amidst lush greenery.
As the trail ascends with a moderate climb, journey through picturesque landscapes adorned with maize fields, verdant banana plantations, charming bandas, and traditional thatched-roof huts- homesteads. You’ll encounter additional cascades of Sipi Falls, each offering its own unique charm and scenic allure. Take in the inspiring sights and sounds of nature, pausing to cool off under the refreshing spray of the falls, and admire breathtaking views overlooking the valley below.

Day 5: Mount Elgon Forest Exploration and Kapkwai Cave
After breakfast, we take a scenic drive to the Mount Elgon Forest Exploration Centre. This extinct volcano, straddling the Uganda-Kenya border, towers at 4,321 meters, making it East Africa’s fourth-highest mountain and Uganda’s second-highest peak. The day is dedicated to hiking, offering an opportunity to explore the mountain forest’s incredible diversity. Two unique trails lead past sparkling waterfalls, hidden caves, and stunning viewpoints.
For birdwatchers, Mount Elgon is a paradise, home to an impressive 300 bird species. After a picnic lunch, you will explore the Kapkwai cave, the Cave exhibits unique geological formations, such as stalactites and stalagmites, formed over thousands of years. These natural features add to the allure and intrigue of the cave environment.

Day 6: To Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve
Today, you’ll journey from Sipi Falls to the Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve on a 4 hrs drive, immersing yourself in its vast plains. These plains are a tapestry of wilderness, rolling savannahs, and acacia woodlands, adorned with weathered rock formations. In the backdrop stand the majestic Mount Kadam and Mount Napak.
Enjoy a picnic lunch before embarking on an exploration of the reserve’s network of wildlife tracks. Look out for the rare Roan antelope, alongside oribi, klipspringer, hyenas, ostriches, leopards, impala, Jackson’s hartebeest, and Rothschild giraffes. Make sure to watch for cheetahs as well; this reserve offers the best opportunity in Uganda to spot these graceful cats. Later, continue your journey to your place of overnight stay.

Day 7: Nature and Community Walks
This day starts with a guided nature walk to get up close and personal with the wilderness at Pian Upe wildlife reserve. For sightseeing, look out for zebras, antelopes, baboons, and the many birds in the reserve. The Reserve is also a birding paradise with over 300 bird species recorded. After a picnic lunch, engage in cultural interactions, visit local communities, and learn about their traditions, dances, and way of life.

Day 8: Travel to Kidepo Valley National Park
This day is spent traversing the vast plains and semi-arid savannah of North Eastern Uganda to Kidepo Valley National Park, arriving in time for lunch. Kidepo Valley National Park is one of the wildest and most spectacular reserves in Africa, with a landscape of small hills, rocky outcrops, and inselbergs.

Day 9: Nature walk in Narus Valley and Dodoth Village Experience
Today you we get to explore the savannah plains in the park, across a backdrop of the surrounding rugged hillsides. This is an excellent time for you to look out for a variety of game herds in the Narus Valley, including Burchell’s zebra, Jackson’s hartebeest, oribi, African buffalo, and Grant’s gazelle as you drive.
Later, head back for lunch and relaxation before setting off for a 3-4 hour cultural experience with a visit to the Dodoth Village. Meet local elders and engage in meaningful interactions as you learn traditional practices such as preparing local brew, grinding grains, and experiencing the vibrant Emuya and Edonga dances. The day winds down with a scenic hike, offering views of landscapes stretching from Kenya to South Sudan.

Day 10: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park
Head southwards to Murchison Falls National Park. Murchison Falls is Uganda’s largest national park and is home to over 400 bird species. The park is also endowed with several attractions, including mammal species with four members of the big five: the lion, the leopard, the elephant, and the buffalo. Other species include bushbucks, Uganda Kob, waterbucks, warthogs, giraffes, Jackson’s hartebeest, hyenas, hippos, and crocodiles, among other resident creatures.
You will drive through the flat scenic landscape with local villages while enjoying the Ugandan countryside. You will arrive at Murchison Falls National Park in the afternoon and check in at your lodge.

Day 11: Top of the Falls and Chimpanzee Trekking in Budongo Forest
After breakfast, head to the top of the falls where you’ll marvel at the spectacle of the White Nile surging through a 7-meter wide gap in the rock face, cutting through Fajao Gorge, and falling 43 meters into the river below, before it meanders off through the savannah plains of the park. Thereafter, head to Budongo Forest, arriving in time for lunch.
After lunch, set out for an unforgettable chimpanzee trekking adventure in Budongo Forest. With the guidance of expert trackers, navigate through lush greenery and towering mahogany trees, listening for the telltale calls and rustling leaves of the forest’s dynamic primate residents. Watch in awe as these intelligent creatures go about their daily routines—playing, grooming, and foraging in their natural habitat. This close encounter offers profound insights into the lives of one of humanity’s closest relatives, making it a truly transformative wildlife experience.
Later, head back to the camp for relaxation.

Day 12:Murchison Falls to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary- Departure
After breakfast, depart from Murchison Falls National Park via the Kichumbanyobo Gate, heading toward Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary—the proud home of Uganda’s only population of Southern White Rhinos. Upon arrival, meet your expert ranger guide for a thrilling on-foot rhino trekking experience.
Traverse the grasslands and African bush as you observe these majestic creatures in their natural habitat, learning fascinating insights about their behavior and conservation efforts. Following the trek, enjoy an informative briefing about the sanctuary’s conservation initiatives and other ongoing projects dedicated to wildlife protection.
Have lunch before continuing your journey back to Entebbe. Depending on your flight schedule, you may relax with a convenient day room until your transfer to the airport for departure at the end of the Wildlife and Walking Safari in Uganda.
