THE BOAT CRUISE ON KAZINGA CHANNEL – QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK
Let it be known that a visit to Queen Elizabeth National Park is not complete till you experience the thrill of taking a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. The Kazinga Channel is a 40km channel that connects Lake Edward in the west, to Lake George in east of the Albertine Rift Floor. The Channel is one of Queen Elizabeth National Park highlights on a safari trip in Uganda’s popular national park that covers 1,978km2. The Kazinga Channel shores attracts a various range of animals and birdlife and is believed to have one of the world’s largest concentration of hippos and numerous Nile crocodile.
The Kazinga channel is famed for its Boat Cruises that are quite rewarding. The Boat cruises are scheduled daily with 4 sessions lasting 2 hours starting from 09:00hrs and last one at 17:00hrs. Sit back and relax as you are guided along the Kazinga Channel by knowledgeable and experienced ranger guides from the Uganda Wildlife Authority as they point out the different attractions. Look out for mammals like hippos, buffaloes and elephant herds among others on the banks of Lake George. The Kazinga channel is a birders’ haven with up to 60 different bird species, on average to be sighted. The boat cruises are either booked through the Uganda Wildlife Authority or Mweya Safari Lodge. From time to time, you may spot some fishermen along the opposite shore of the channel to Mweya.
The park can be visited during the two dry seasons: January to February and from June to July. For bird watching, visit between late May and September. The months of April, May, August and September are usually rainy seasons however the sun always comes out in Uganda!
